Leadership
Leadership is the accomplishment of goals through people and getting these people do the
work because they want
to do the work!
Modern leadership theories:
1. Fiedler Model-2 factors are important to leadership

3. Position power- Firing/
promotions/etc.
2. Houses Path Goal- The subordinates will accomplish goals if there is
satisfaction. The leader must assist, support,
and provide direction.
Leaders must clarify the path. Leaders must reduce obstacles.
A. Directive leader- Very specific guidelines, creates
specific work schedules, etc.
B. Supportive- Friendly. Leader understands the needs of the
subordinates.
C. Participate Leader- Consults with subordinates
D. Achievement Leader- Sets challenging goals and task

3. Attribution Theory-People are identified as a leader by their traits
(Intelligence/Personality/etc.) regardless of the situation
4. Charismatic Leadership- similar to attribution theory.
5. Visionary leadership
6. Team Leadership- It is very difficult to become a team leader
- You must learn when to leave the team alone or when to
intervene

Leaders provide visions.
Leaders are change agents.
Leadership is needed at all levels of the organization.
The leaders environment is constantly changing.
Leaders make tough decisions.
Leaders need the courage to see through tough decisions.
Leaders must be situational.
Leaders must build relationships.
Leaders need to plan and prepare for change.
Leaders seeks to do what is good for others.
